Lineate Client Rosen Publishing Shortlisted for Prestigious Innovation Excellence Award
We’re excited to share that one of our clients, The Rosen Publishing Group, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Innovation Excellence Awards in the Education Technology category. The nomination is for an innovative project we worked on together. These awards, established by The Stationers’ Company, recognize groundbreaking innovation across the UK’s communications and content industries.
Founded in 1950, Rosen Publishing is one of the most respected independent educational publishers in the United States. Specializing in PreK–12 materials, it offers a catalog of more than 25,000 titles for K–12 students, along with a range of widely adopted programs and tools for educators. Its work is known for combining strong pedagogy with engaging content that supports educators in schools and public libraries worldwide.
Despite its extensive catalog, Rosen recognized a growing challenge in the digital age: improving the literacy development experience for both educators and young students. The goal was to leverage its thousands of high-interest PreK–2 e-books to make literacy learning more engaging and effective for both groups.
This challenge became the starting point for LevelUp, Rosen’s adaptive reading platform for early readers. Over a 15-month collaboration, Lineate worked closely with Rosen’s content teams to design and develop a system that could personalize the reading experience for every student. Our combined teams focused on seven core areas, including interactive reading assessments, a recommendation engine that suggests books based on reading level, comprehensive reporting dashboards, gamification elements to boost motivation, and interactive phonics lessons.
LevelUp assesses a student’s reading level through a short test. Using the Lexile scale, it then recommends books that match their current ability, ensuring that every child is challenged but never overwhelmed. As students read, the platform tracks time spent, comprehension quiz scores, and progress in phonics. Teachers can review this data in intuitive dashboards, making it easy to see which students are ready to advance and which may need more support.
Engagement is built into the heart of the system. Students complete activities, explore and populate new characters in the 3D game world. Phonics lessons use animation, illustration, and narration to make foundational literacy skills more interactive and enjoyable. The platform continuously reassesses each student’s progress and updates recommendations so the learning experience grows alongside them.
Since its launch in the fall of 2019, LevelUp has exceeded adoption targets and achieved exceptional engagement compared to standard eReaders. It allows teachers to track each student’s reading progress, recommend books suited to their level, and deliver interactive activities that make learning to read both effective and fun. The platform has proven especially valuable during the shift to remote learning during the pandemic and is now being rolled out in thirteen countries, with more international releases planned.
LevelUp Reader has now been recognized as the Adaptive Reading Platform of the Year 2025, following an exhaustive evaluation by an expert panel of C-level executives, industry thought leaders, and the editorial board.
The Innovation Excellence Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony in London’s historic Stationers’ Hall. Being shortlisted is already a significant achievement, and we are proud to have contributed to a project that is helping young readers around the world develop a lifelong love for reading.
